Dawn Ulmer wrote a fun, interesting story revealing decades of changes in her hair. It got me thinking, so let’s see where this prompt leads me.

But first, read her delightful story:

I was the first baby in our family born with red hair. This made me special, taking after Mom, standing out from my brunette and blonde older sisters. Five years later, my little brother was born, not only a sought-after male but also a redhead with curls.

That sucked for me.

Even so, I always enjoyed being a redhead because it helped me stand out. Red hair, also known as ginger or orange hair, is the rarest hair color in the world, found in about 1–2% of the global population. Of course, if I lived in Scotland, it’s 13%. Still decent odds.

My mom coveted curly hair, both for herself and, unfortunately, for her children as well. Danny, my redheaded baby brother, was safe with his naturally curly hair, while we girls underwent numerous torturous Toni…
