Painting the Gloom Away

Even hospitals can be glad

Let’s face it. Hospitals aren’t generally known for being places of good news, even though many people do receive help for a lot of ailments there.

The typical, unsupported consensus is that hospitals mean the patient is dying. Of course that isn’t true, but it’s been ingrained since we were little. The flashing lights and sirens are an EMERGENCY, taking someone to the hospital because they’re dying.

Well, hopefully as we’ve grown older (and perpetually wiser) we have learned not to regard hospitals as such dismal places. Even so, simply going there for a check-up, one must undoubtedly pass by people sitting, waiting, sad. It just… is.

That’s why I was very glad to discover a small stone fountain nestled in a square of pebbles just to the right of one local hospital. There are several benches where one can sit and relax, but most important is that there’s a rock ‘garden’ around the base of the fountain.

Being that I already have a special rock garden at a park dedicated to my son David who died of suicide in 2020, seeing this here just lifted my spirits. People paint rocks and then come and…
