Ripley’s Believe it or Not is a London exhibition and series of books about weird and creepy things. Years ago, I was doing a lot of work for esoteric magazines like It’s Fate and Paranormal magazine.

I used one of the Ripley’s annuals to find stories and ideas for these magazines. They like all things weird and creepy. One of the short stories I pulled together was about people who’d come back from the dead.

I kid you not…

Ademir Goncalves from Brazil shocked his relatives when he arrived fit and well to attend his own funeral in November 2009. They thought he’d been killed in a car crash but had misidentified the charred remains of another person. Ademir had been away on a drinking spree.

Jozef Guzy from Katowice in Poland was working among his beehives in 2010 when he collapsed. A doctor pronounced the 76-year-old dead from a suspected heart attack. The body was removed by an undertaker, but just before his coffin was sealed, his wife asked for Jozef’s watch chain.

As the undertaker fiddled with the chain, he detected a pulse. The doctor returned and announced that Jozef had “come back from the dead.”

Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov, from Russia was mistakenly declared dead…
