When A Heartfelt Article Languishes

It hurts

I write all my articles with a lot of heart. But some articles have more heart than others. Some things move me immensely. In such cases, I pour even more of myself into writing about it.

I labor. I choose words with care. I take the time. I mull over how I want to say what I want to say. I worry about how readers will understand my message. I savor the process. I read the article several times myself because I want to feel the feelings again.

Then I put the article out into the world and wait for others to feel what I felt — because that’s why we write. Right?

I wait. And wait.

And then I hear them. Loud, noisy, crickets. Hordes of them. Drowning out every other sound. Just the sound of crickets.

Hardly anyone reads the article. Ok, maybe some folks do. They love it. That feels good. But the rest? Where are they?

This article has met such a fate. I really wish more people would read it, and buy the book. Proceeds from the book go towards supporting dogs. How beautiful is that?
