In recent years, we have found that solving the problem of privacy protection has become more and more urgent in the development of the Internet. Data abuse has become a norm in this era, and data sharing that can truly play the value of data is difficult to promote. Right to data portability originates from the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) promulgated by the European Union in 2018.

According to GDPR: Individuals can request data controllers provide personal data held to themselves or other controllers. This directive broke the monopoly of data by enterprises and provided a legal basis for data sharing and data value monetization.

The birth of the right to data portability is of great significance to the development of society and science. For example, in the medical field, understanding diseases, drugs, lifestyle habits, and sleep from data, and improving the activity of structured and unstructured data obtained from multiple sources can realize the value-added of data. The effective use of these data is more related to national and even global disease prevention and control, new drug research and development, and the ability to overcome chronic diseases.

The right to data portability not only protects personal data, but also revitalizes the value of data. However, the actual implementation of the right to data portability also faces some challenges. For example, data transfer requires interoperability between data controller systems, which may present technical obstacles or cost increases for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Judging from the existing development model of the right to data portability in the world, it is mainly led by the government or technology companies. However, both of them have different limitations in terms of secure storage, trusted transmission, and collaborative production. Considering these issues, GDFS, which has both a credible verification mechanism and an incentive mechanism, came.
