GoodDollar Community Meeting 04: Investing in people power, innovation

A review of current progress, plus the funding of future innovation, were under discussion at the fourth GoodDollar Community meeting.

The May 25th gathering heard how the decision to appoint a team of Community Moderators in February is already delivering major rewards. The community then looked to benefits to come as USD $100k worth of G$ was allocated for new initiatives.

Protocol Community Lead Gusatvo Segovia’s two-part agenda focused on ways to extend the success of GoodDollar’s Community Moderators and then laid out a proposal for the GoodDAO Community Treasury to support a host of innovative ideas.

Steve (Focused Steve), Moderator for Nigeria, gave a well-researched presentation summarizing the strong performance of the Moderation team over the three-month period since the GoodDAO officially approved its appointment on February 22nd. Steve said he and fellow Moderators have dedicated more than 100 hours a week to monitoring social channels, responding to member questions, creating informational content and developing new educational initiatives. These include a new Spanish language YouTube channel and the Good Academy, a dual-language interactive space for community members to meet and learn from one another.

Steve also shared metrics that showed a rise in engagement with GoodDollar’s social media channels since the Moderators started work. Traffic in GoodDollar Discord, for example, rose by 25% from 1,358 posts in March to 1,802 in May this year.

The upward trend in participation was mirrored in the GoodDollar Marketplace on Sharetribe. As of the third week of May, there were 95,060 members active in the market, up from 80,745 in March.

Gustavo thanked and congratulated the Moderators for all their hard work. He then asked the meeting to renew authorization for the team’s work for the next quarter and sought approval to ratify Moderators’ payments from the Community Treasury.

Attention then turned to a proclamation proposal introduced by Gustavo on behalf of GoodDollar Limited. The GoodDAO Community Treasury Vision seeks to equip the GoodDAO with sufficient resources to chart a course towards successful community collaboration, engagement and education. To fund these initiatives, the Community Treasury multisig account will receive $100k USD worth of G$ from GoodDollar Limited. This will be stored in the Community Treasury Vault, a Gnosis Safe.

Gustavo’s proclamation included a reminder of innovations already agreed for 2022 and now handed over to the GoodDAO to take forward. These include:

• Community Moderation and UBI advocacy.
• Development and management of community infrastructure (web hosting, decentralized marketplaces, DAO frameworks and liquidity deployment).
• Cryptoeconomics R&D centered on DeFI and sustainable ideas and proposals.
• Other proposals from the community.

Budget allowing, the proposal suggested other initiatives that could be incorporated into 2022 scope, if agreed:

• Cryptocurrency and web3 education across the globe (supported by the Ambassadors Program).
• Ecosystem expansion (integration with different chains and protocols).
• Fundraising campaigns for worthy causes.

Gustavo stressed that these initiatives are suggestions only and are open to discussion. Final decisions will be in the hands of the GoodDAO.

“This document aims to serve as a guideline for the community towards the budget actions of 2022,” he said. “This is a kind of social contract so the GoodDAO can commit as a community to follow these activities and to focus on this kind of effort and workstreams.”

The meeting concluded with introductions to two new members of the GoodDollar team: Growth and Marketing Lead Tanya Dias, who will be working to raise GoodDollar’s profile across the globe, and Developer Advocate Noak, who stands ready to help people looking to build on GoodDollar.
