And just like that, the 10 or more weeks Summer have came and went. We’ve enjoyed vacations, pool parties, festivals, concerts, and great weather for as long as we can. We’ve enjoyed what seems like extra time off, and freedom on the roads sans school buses and school zones, and now it has rolled all back to us. It’s official, summer is over.

But with Summer being gone, new things are brewing. Storms are coming, and they’ve got us in the crosshairs. Late August will soon gain its notoriety back for being a time of year for devastating storms. 12 years ago, New Orleans was struck directly by Hurricane Katrina, and now nearly a decade later yet another Gulf Coast city has felt that level of devastation. Hurricane Harvey’s impact in Houston has opened eyes once again to the catastrophic forces that Hurricanes can have on U.S. cities. And though our eyes should have long been open, the reality is that life outside of the eye wall and out of hurricane season has allowed us to grow comfortable. Comfortable enough, that is, to argue against what should be a growing concern in climate change, rising sea levels, cracking ice sheets, and intensifying storms.

Initially, our feature story, “Hurricane Harvey & More: Are We Next” was to be a story on the preparations of what could be. What could potentially be the devastating storm that can turn Tampa, Florida into Houston, Florida or New Orleans, LA or Sierra Leone, or other cities across the world currently dealing with large scale flooding, death, and land slides caused by torrential rains. However, at the exact moment we began designing our digital version of GoodKnocking Magazine, Hurricane Irma set her gaze on a path that would include the Lesser Antilles, The Greater Antilles, and the state of Florida. A precautionary delay, we found that there was much more to the story than simply “what if” scenarios. The fact is our 12 years of tranquility have caused major retardations in our keeping up with the intensifying powers of Atlantic storms.

We’re simply not ready for our one big storm.

Mistah Marvel dives into the story of what it means to be in Florida as the state now continues to grow in panic of whether we can weather our big storm. On the contrary, we get a real-time experience of lessons learned and the experience after the storm’s passing. Chris J gives his perspectives in “5 Lessons I Learned from Weathering Hurricane Irma

Due to delays caused by the storm, we will be releasing our first issue of GoodKnocking Magazine online for our October 2017 issue. Stay tuned!
