How to get into the habit of writing daily

There are several ways to get in the habit of writing daily. Here is what I recommend based on my experience:

1. Write every day

Usually, you write a few times a week, or once a week. This is not enough! It won’t become a habit that way. Instead, tell yourself, “I will write every day.” And really make that happen.

2. Save some time of your day to write

Take a few minutes for this purpose, or you will ‘have’ no time to write. I suggest you do this in the morning, as soon as you can, so other things don’t come your way. If you are a night person the last hours of the day can be very useful as well.

3. Start small

This is important. All you have to do is start writing every day — you don’t have to write 1,000 words or so. Just get started; the ‘how much doesn’t matter. After writing daily becomes a habit you can even increase the time or the goal, for now just start.

3. Write a journal

You can write just for yourself, but I recommend writing a journal, and GNJ is a great help. Creating your account on Goodnight Journal helps you write regularly, and it forces you to think differently, depending on your audience. Oh, and never let fear stop you from doing something incredible.

4. Turn off distractions

The writer is the distraction’s best friend! He knows his powerful appeal, but he must master the desire to follow it. So, turn off everything: close all tabs, all email programs, and social networks, and just write!

It does not matter why you want to write, if you want to become a writer or trying to control your anxiety, you should write. Over time you will learn the power of writing everyday and improve your daily life.
