10 HMI and infotainment systems presented in January 2018

January 2018 — CES2018 and Detroit Auto Show are over. I was curious about the current status of infotainment systems in cars. The Verge started their review with the words: “We were promised smartphones on wheels.
But we’re still waiting for infotainment to be intuitive”. I agree, but also want to look a bit more in detail. The following list contains links and videos you should check out.

01 Mercedes Benz User Experience

The long-awaited MBUX was presented at CES2018 and will be launched in the new A-class later this year. Watch this video to see in detail.

02 Harman

This HMI by Harman is not just about a big wild screen. You can see more interactions with knobs and touchscreen in this video. If you want to see even more, click this.

03 Byton

It was a big and bold presentation by Byton at the CES. Here you can learn about their HMI – the screen in the steering wheel and the gesture control of the big panel.

04 VW Active Info Display

Volkswagen silently introduced the new Jetta in Detroit. The Jetta comes with the Active Info Display. We saw this already in 2017, but it is still worth to mention it.

05 Bosch

Bosch was also at CES2018 and showed us their idea of a non-distractive cockpit. Voice interaction and face recognition is part of the system.

06 Nissan Xmotion concept

This HMI comes with a autonomous concept car. A koi fish is your personal assistant and is floating across seven displays in front of the driver.

07 Mitsubishi Electrics

The Youtube channel Fully Charged was visiting Mitsubishi Motors. This video is showing us their new infotainment vision concept.

08 Smart EV

This was alreday shown at the IAA 2017, but it is still new. It's the fully autonomous vision of car sharing by Mercedes. Unfortunately I couldn’t find so many details regarding the UX of in car screens.

09 Dodge Ram

Does size matter? This big screen in a Dodge Ram is in the leage of Tesla's 17 inch touchscreen. This will go in production, so let's wait for some reviews.

10 Nissan IMx

And another Nissan concept you might know already. I really like the contra idea of having no striking screen in the car — just a Head Up Display.
