A heartfelt invitation to our tradition
Hi there,
It’s me, Pranay. I’m writing to you in capacity of an Organiser for GDG Cloud New Delhi. Off-late, we community organisers along with Google have been introspecting on how the past year has been, how it has shaped where we are today and what the future beholds. After all, our communities of 25000 people across India were built on strong and deep inter-personal relationships that bound us together in the spirit of learning. The pandemic is a trying time for those relationships. We know stories from our communities of people for whom the pandemic was nothing short of a catastrophe. Amidst all this, one thing has that has stayed consistent and strong, is the unrelenting support from our peers within the community. Our empathy for each other keeps us strong.
Each year, all community organisers, Google Developer Experts and Google Developer Relations team get together to celebrate at an annual community summit called GDG/WTM India Community Summit. This year, while we were socially distant and the summit was virtual, we couldn’t help but reflect back on our smiles and bliss from previous year and emote how different our lives have come to be. This brought us to contemplate that besides these times, what forms the core of our identity, what do we represent in our societies and what purpose do we serve as community organisers. Interestingly, a majority of us found our identity in being Indian and our purpose in helping people. This also brought us to contemplate what our tradition is. See, tradition could mean different to you and me but even I did not realise that when seen from a different angle, if one person keeps a routine over a prolonged periods, it becomes a habit and if a group of people do it, it becomes a tradition.
That’s what we’ve come to realise. Events such as Devfest or Google I/O Extended are a part of our tradition. Each year, people anticipate these events and gather around to celebrate them like festivals. Last year in December, something unusual happened as for the first time, GDG Cloud communities had their own large scale event dedicated to Google Cloud. We had speakers from 5 countries flying across India to be a part of this event and we dedicated this event to the community by calling it ‘Google Cloud Community Days’. This year, as winter was falling in, it reminded each one of us of our time last year where we were heavily preparing and were involved in organising Google Cloud Community Days. Also, since ‘Death by Webinar’ is an inevitable truth during the pandemic and many of us were entrapped within its perils, we had mostly stayed inactive for the larger part of the year. Contrastingly, DevFest India had recently passed and you bet, people across the globe were awestruck by the response. It not only inspired us but also ignited a spark among us to convert that one-off Google Cloud Community Days to a tradition and here I am, inviting you to be a part of our tradition in making.
Google Cloud Community Days India is the largest event for Google Cloud enthusiasts in India and its being organised between January 22nd — 23rd, 2021. Ten GDG Cloud communities across the nation are collaborating to bring the very best of Google Cloud to you. Here’s what we’re offering as a part of our event:
- Learn & Get Certified: Reports suggest that Google Cloud certifications are among the highest paying certifications in the industry. Our survey also reported that over 69% people have never achieved a Google Cloud certificate. We want to change that. We want to help you learn and prepare for those certifications such that you can excel in your journey. You also have a chance of winning certification vouchers on your active participation.
- Connect with the experts: We want to connect you to experts in the industry and help you understand what kind of career options are available after Google Cloud certifications among other insights.
- Be a part of the community: We want to reinforce our relation among the community that was built on human connection by bringing in personal learning experience in online events.
I look forward to seeing you there. You’ll find the registration link below.
Best,
Pranay
