Testing Google Cloud Vision API Landmark detection with my own travel photographs
A few days ago, fellow Google Cloud Developer Advocate Sara Robinson wrote a great blog post about the landmark detection feature of Cloud Vision API (docs | live demo | sample code). I was impressed with Sara’s results, so I decided to try some of my travel photographs to see if the API could identify the wide arrange of landmarks. The results amazed me!
Below are a series of screenshots of my experiment using our online demo of the Vision API. You can try it out with your own images.
Note: None of these images have embedded location data. I shot them with various SLRs that have no GPS capabilities, so the location you see below is derived from the lat/long results provided by the API.
Landmark detection is just one of many features of the Vision API. Check it out!
