The month of September brought celebrations of cultural heritage with a look at Latino trailblazers and tours of Little Indias around the world. We also tested everyone’s knowledge of how people get around in our transportation quiz and explored Petra, the ancient archeological site. Finally, we revisited a few old favorites like this collection of Beautiful Places to be in Fall and examined the effects of a warming planet through satellite imagery with See Climate Change’s Impact during the Climate Strike.

Hurricane Dorian from Above

Compare before and after imagery of the areas affected by Hurricane Dorian.

Hurricane Dorian from Above: We monitored the path of Hurricane Dorian in our live-updating Current Hurricanes & Tropical Storms data layer, and shared the imagery showing the effects of the storm in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and the eastern coast of the United States. This is the same imagery made available to crisis response teams in order to coordinate rescue efforts. Plus, it helps us all understand just how devastating storms like Dorian can be.

Latino Trailblazers

Latino Trailblazers: To kick off Hispanic Heritage Month (which is celebrated from September 15 to October 15), we explored the lives of 13 Latino icons including Roberto Clemente, Celia Cruz, Frida Kahlo and more. Take the tour to visit important places in their lives and learn about their achievements in art, science, athletics and more. Read more about the collection on The Keyword.
