Coding the Future: Developing In-House Project by Bridging Academia and Club Activities at the University of Belgrade
Thesis Project Integration 🎓
As a student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, in the final year of our undergraduate studies, we have a thesis project that for software engineering students involves developing a software product that solves a specific problem. Together with my colleague Vanja, with whom I lead the club, and our professor Dražen, who will be our mentor for the project, we decided to create a product that will serve as an In-House project for the Google Developer Student Club, University of Belgrade. We believe this is a great opportunity to connect our academic responsibilities with our extracurricular activity of leading the club, using it to enhance and facilitate our club’s operations. 😊
Identifying Club Challenges 🕵️♂️
During our tenure leading the club, we’ve identified some deficiencies and shortcomings in certain procedures and activities that could be improved with a software solution. This wouldn’t have been possible without the wonderful people in the club who provided feedback during our meetings, helping us see the bigger picture. 🌟
The Vision for Our Product 🌐
What we want our product to be like a centralized place where club members can easily and intuitively access all news, useful information, and links related to club. Additionally, we aim to automate the process of scheduling meetings and sending emails when new members join the club. These are our initial functionalities, and that can be changed as we encounter new challenges over time. The actual implementation of the project is planned from March to June, after which it will be launched to significantly aid our successors. 🚀
Embracing New Technologies 💡
We are also excited about this being a great opportunity to familiarize ourselves with new Google technologies and improve our knowledge of the ones we already know. We would encourage other club leaders to consider implementing In-House projects that could contribute to their club’s growth, potentially linking them with school projects. 📈
