This year, for the first time ever, we launched the Google Machine Learning Bootcamp in Europe as part of a global initiative aiming to nurture the next generation of ML engineers, provide them with crucial knowledge and connect them with local startups and enterprises, ultimately enabling them to take the much-desired shift in their professional careers.

Taking the chance to learn

After receiving almost 1000 applications, 100 participants from 19 European countries were selected to participate in this four-month intense training program to master machine learning and discover areas such as Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing and Time Series Forecasting.

To complete the bootcamp, participants were required to go through Coursera Deep Learning Specialization, compete in a Kaggle competition or submit a Tabular Playground Series and pass the TensorFlow Developer Certificate Exam. About 53% of attendees successfully reached all 3 milestones and graduated from the program, embarking on their new professional adventure.

Building lasting partnerships

Throughout the bootcamp, participants had the opportunity to connect with most renowned companies in the industry, including top firms like Hugging Face🤗, JustEat, Wrike, or StandardAI.

Our partners delivered a total of 18 technical talks sharing insights on how they leverage machine learning, but also presented their company culture and what it is to be an ML engineer in their firm, encouraging participants to pursue a career in the field, and with their company.

Additionally, participants benefited from Resume Clinics with Google recruiters, a Social Media Optimization masterclass, as well as dedicated office hours with both Google Engineers and Researchers, and Google Developer Experts.

Finally, they got the unique opportunity to meet and ask questions to Laurence Moroney, AI Lead at Google during the graduation ceremony, which got participants particularly excited after spending 2 months learning from Laurence through the Coursera TensorFlow Certification course.

Discovering new TensorFlow opportunities

Bootcamp participants also got the chance to hear from Developer Advocates:

Growing as a part of a community

ML Bootcamp participants expressed their satisfaction with the course and admitted they appreciated the opportunity to learn and acquire new skills, but most of all — they appreciated the community that grew around the bootcamp and continues to be active even after the graduation. Sharing inspiration and keeping each other motivated during the program turned out to be the most valuable experience for the attendees — after all, it’s the community that nurtures us and makes us grow.

“Thank you all for giving us an incredible opportunity, and it’s so intriguing to have the chance to listen to Laurence live. Thank you Laurence for the TF course and for being here with us today.” Elmira

“Thanks for organizing this bootcamp! I have been postponing ML/DL learning and practice for some time now, and being in this community helped me stay motivated and finish all of the courses and doing the Kaggle practice :)” Zhandos

“Thank you all so much for everything! I am too shy to speak, but my appreciation is beyond words” Jiuxi

“Thanks Google and all organisers for this amazing BootCamp :)” Aman

“We are looking forward for a new bootcamp level 2 ;)” Lirone

“Thank you all ! This was a wonderful experience ! :)” Ioana

“Thank you a lot! I have had a great experience with all of you through this bootcamp. Congratulations to everyone who has joined it! Hope to meet you again! Ciao!” Giulio

“I want to say thank you to all the people who were part of the organisation of the bootcamp, as well as all the participants who made it such a great experience! I learned a lot during this period. Congratulations to all the participants! Una
