Google for Developers in Europe: A Year in Review
As we approach the end of 2023, the Google For Developers Europe team wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the amazing things that we have accomplished with our community members this year.
We kicked off the year with the first Google Developer Experts Summit in Europe, gathering 150+ Experts from across Europe over 2 days in Berlin. This event was a great opportunity for developers to connect with each other and learn from Googlers about the latest features and updates on Google technologies including Android, Cloud, Machine Learning and more.
In the following months, we continued to support the Flutter community with the Flutter Forward Extended event series. 52 events were hosted by more than 30 of our GDG chapters across 11 countries, reaching over 2k developers. Leveraging the enthusiasm of the European developer ecosystem around Flutter, we facilitated the connection between 1st party groups and 3rd party influencers to celebrate the major updates from the flagship conference Flutter Forward.
One of the highlights of 2023 and a true celebration of our community was Google I/O Connect Amsterdam. This event brought together 1,120 developers from 70 EMEA countries to learn about the latest Google technologies. 30 talks and Q&As were delivered, along with 10 workshops, 170 office hours, 20 demos, and 10 community meetups. The event was a huge success, with 95% of attendees saying they would attend again next year. You can read more here.
This year’s Google I/O also brought many of us together: more than 6k developers joined our I/O Watch Parties in Google offices or attended one of the 100 I/O Extended events organised by the community.
As part of our AI/ML digitization strategy on upskilling Ukrainian professionals, we organised a dedicated Google Machine Learning bootcamp for Ukraine, in partnership with the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation and Coursera. This 2-month bootcamp was designed to help Ukrainian developers learn how to use machine learning to build solutions to the challenges they are facing. We trained over 2,000 developers with the TensorFlow course at Coursera and 12 webinars, 900 of which completed the TensorFlow Developer Certificate.
We also continued to grow our community on the Google For Developers Discord server. This server now has over 14k members, who are actively engaged in discussions about Google technologies. If you are not a member yet, join us now!
