We’re celebrating World Wildlife Day today. The theme for this year is “Sustaining all life on earth”, encompassing all wild animal and plant species as key components of the world’s biodiversity.

Earth is home to countless species of fauna and flora. This rich diversity is what has made our planet inhabitable for all creatures, including us!

Unfortunately, unsustainable human activities and overexploitation of species and natural resources threaten the world’s biodiversity.

How can you get involved?

Get to know the animal and plant species under threat in the area where you live. Find out more about the threats and challenges they face, and what can be done to conserve them. Then share this knowledge with your family and friends!

How are we celebrating?

As well as doing all of the above, we like to remember past GoParity projects that particularly link to this special day. Reforesting Belver aimed to reforest an area through the plantation of around 270.000 indigenous trees, absorbing 5940 tons of CO2 per year.

Every year, 13 million hectares of forests are lost, while the persistent degradation of drylands has led to the desertification of 3.6 billion hectares, disproportionately affecting poor communities.

This will have an enormous impact on the local area, by promoting biodiversity and wildlife. This particular project fits also to one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by United Nations that deals with protection of the planet and life on land.

SDG 15

While 15 percent of land is protected, biodiversity is still at risk. Nearly 7,000 species of animals and plants have been illegally traded. Wildlife trafficking not only erodes biodiversity, but creates insecurity, fuels conflict, and feeds corruption.

We, at GoParity, continuously aim to bring out projects promoting the planet’s biodiversity as well as we seek for new project opportunities that could help us increase our project portfolio fulfilling the 15th UN goal.
