The University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida.

Sunny Gainesville, Florida, is home to one of the most successful nursing programs in the nation: the University of Florida’s College of Nursing. UF has been training nurses since 1956 and consistently ranks in the top ten percent of nursing schools in America.

The reason? They’ve embraced educational innovation.

With a national nursing shortage on the rise, UF and many other nursing schools around the country are seeking new ways to recruit students, train them, and send qualified nurses out into the workforce.

Students conduct hands-on simulations to prepare them for nursing assignments out in the field.

For UF, the secret to rapid student improvement has been filming their students’ simulation labs to give targeted feedback and better hands-on experience. But they don’t use just any video tool. Their school chose GoReact.

Here are five problems UF has all but eliminated by choosing GoReact as their video tool:

1. LMS Integration — UF looked into many video options, but very few of them were compatible with their institution’s LMS. Professors like to work in the environment they’re used to, so GoReact’s Canvas compatibility made it a perfect fit.

2. Video File Sizes — In their early experiments with video, faculty discovered that most video formats are too large to share. Canvas couldn’t handle all the videos from an entire class, and YouTube was a woefully clunky replacement. GoReact eliminated both of these issues by automatically compressing video files and submitting them straight to the professor in the cloud.

3. Simple Equipment — The college was nervous about using expensive, complicated equipment to film their labs, but these fears turned out to be easily avoidable. GoReact makes it possible for students to film themselves with their own smartphones and easily pause, clip, or re-film a segment.

4. Better and More Frequent Practice — Now that students are watching themselves on camera, they’re getting more practice and clarity than ever. Students can recognize mistakes in their nursing procedures and refilm for a better video. Better yet, instructors can leave targeted, in-context feedback right on the video so students can improve faster and faster.

5. Saving time for faculty — By far the most noticeable benefit is all the time faculty members are saving. Instead of sitting for hours in a lab, instructors can review GoReact clips anytime and anywhere, at home, on the bus, even in the middle of the night. This is saving them days of time while reviewing student work.
