Filming student teachers in the classroom is transforming teacher education programs everywhere.

If you’re looking for great advice on teaching, it’s time to ask an veteran.

Meet education guru Glen Clark. Glen started his journey with nine years as a junior high school science teacher then 20 years as a junior and senior high school principal. That led to 11 years on the secondary education faculty in the Utah Valley University School of Education.

Now Glen is sharing his insider’s knowledge on student teaching observations. Observing pre-service teachers in the field is absolutely vital for training, but observations are also time consuming and expensive. Beyond that, they’re tough on the supervisors and sometimes not as helpful for student teachers as they could be.

And observations done across state lines? Those are even trickier.

Even interns teaching across the country need personalized feedback and critique.

Here’s what Glen had to say on the subject: “As I worked with these out-of-state student teachers, I always felt uncomfortable with the cost, the large amount of time required for the professor to travel, and having only two student teaching observations. In my mind, all of these factors made out-of-state teaching less than effective. And for years I was actively searching for a better and easier way to supervise these teachers from afar.”

As it turns out, the answer to Glen’s problem was a new technology tool that made observations and feedback easier than Glen ever could have imagined.
