Registration Settings

Control how and when customers book classes. Set different settings per class type.

We recently updated Registration Settings to support new use cases for our customers. It’s a good opportunity to explain these settings from the beginning. What are they, and why might you use them?

Each setting has an Advanced option that lets you set different values per class type. Otherwise, settings apply to all classes.

Registration Cutoff

The registration cutoff determines when customers are no longer allowed to register for a class. This can be before or after the class begins.

Some classes require lead time to gather materials or hire an instructor. You might require customers to register for these classes well in advance to give you time to prepare.

Other classes are unstructured. Maybe you offer Open Gym, where customers can show up any time during the session. For those classes, you can allow registrations even after the session begins.

Advance Registration Limit

The advance registration limit determines how far in advance customers are allowed to register.

For your regular class schedule, maybe you only want customers to register for classes happening in the next 7 days. This helps prevent classes from filling up too far in the future.

If you offer less frequent, more expensive seminars, you probably want customers to register weeks or months in advance.

Cancellation Cutoff

The cancellation cutoff determines how close to the start time a customer is allowed to leave a class without being counted as a late cancellation.

For regular classes where you know other customers will claim unused attendance spots, 1 hour might be a reasonable cutoff.

If a class is harder to arrange or more expensive, you might require customers to give more notice to ensure someone else takes the spot.

Remember that the nightly blackout period (also in Registration Settings) works in conjunction with the cancellation cutoff to manage customers’ cancellation behavior. Time during the nightly blackout does not count towards cancellation cutoff time. You can use this to require customers to cancel morning classes the night before, even if your cancellation cutoff window is small.
