The Whitby Goth Weekend is an alternative music festival. It was founded in 1994 by Jo Hampshire and has grown to become one of the world’s premier Goth events.
The event takes place in the North Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby.

Meet the Ancestors
· The origins of WGW are in a meeting of around forty of Hampshire’s pen-pals in 1994.
· It has grown into one of the world’s most popular Goth music events attracting around 1,500+ attendees from across the UK and beyond.
· For many years there was an 80’s night held at Laughtons, a genuine venue from the 1980s. The night would traditionally end with the song Vagabonds.
· Over the years there have been several “traditions” that have come and gone like- Net.gott meal, Monday evening beach party which includes bonfire and occasional fireworks.
What to wear
Even though, there is no dress code for the event but you will find people in different looks starting from steam punk to metal, emo and gothic. Here are some inspirations for you to make your own style statement at the WGW event.
