Meet the Team at Gousto Tech — Morgan Carter — Security Analyst
This post is part of our series interviewing members of our GoustoTech team. In this post, we meet Morgan Carter who is a Security Analyst.
What is your favourite food?
I love burgers, Mexican food, and anything cheese-based. I’m pretty open minded when it comes to new food, and working at Gousto it changes all the time. I recently tried a few new Korean dishes as part of our Seoul Food range, and those were amazing.
Please introduce yourself and tell us about your role at Gousto.
Hey! I’m Morgan, I’m a Security Analyst at Gousto. I work pretty closely with our Software Engineering and IT squads on everything from risk management and maintaining our ISO 27001 certification, to organising penetration testing and security training.
How long have you been at Gousto?
I joined at the end of March, so about 7 months so far.
Can you tell us a little about your journey before arriving at Gousto?
I’ve been working in cybersecurity for just over four years, mostly in the finance sector. I started off on a rotational IT graduate programme, moved into a Cloud Operations role, and then worked as a Security Consultant before coming to Gousto. I’m also about halfway through a part-time MSc in Information Security, which has really helped me to structure my personal and professional development.
What made you decide to join Gousto?
I actually went to university with one of our iOS Engineers — we both studied English literature and ended up in Gousto Tech, which is amazing. She started working here about 6 months before I did, and she let me know Gousto was looking for a Security Analyst and encouraged me to apply. I’d already tried Gousto as a customer and really loved the products and also the prospect of reducing food waste and environmental impact without compromising on convenience or quality. We’re all foodies and nerds here, so I’m right at home.
What has been the most exciting thing you’ve worked on at Gousto since joining?
There’s been too much to choose from! One of the best things I’ve been part of so far was implementing a new process for management and reporting of end of life software, which is very cool. I’ve also helped design and implement a new security education programme which we’ve tried to make as engaging as possible, and taking on feedback from our previous security training we’ve been able to do some quite novel things with our training, so that’s been really satisfying.
What’s in the pipeline that you’re excited about at Gousto?
In Security specifically, we have some pretty major work going on to implement a new security operations centre, and we’re planning to grow the team a lot over the next couple of years to help us meet our strategic objectives, so that’s super exciting. More widely at Gousto, we’re working on opening a couple of new factories next year, which will help us to make an even bigger impact and continue to grow.
How would you describe the culture at Gousto?
I think the culture is my favourite thing about working here. We’ve still got a bit of a startup mentality, so things are really fast-paced and there’s a huge focus on change and delivery, but there’s also real willingness to collaborate and support each other. Everyone I’ve worked with so far has been super friendly and open to challenge — it’s super easy to integrate. We have company-wide and team socials, which were online during the pandemic and made my onboarding experience really welcoming, and we have Tech Buddies for your first few months to help you settle in and get to know people.
Why would you suggest that someone considers joining us at Gousto Tech?
There are so many brilliant projects and pieces of work going on — we’re growing incredibly quickly and maturing as a business and that brings really interesting and fun opportunities. We’re having such a positive impact on the planet and reducing food waste and creating products we believe in, but we’re really a data company that loves food, and that’s such a great space to be in if you love tech (and food).
