Submit your story to GOV.Design

GOV.Design is an unofficial collection of open stories on the realities of designing a digital government, shared by the people who work there.

The best place to read and write officially published blog posts is GOV.UK blogs (https://www.blog.gov.uk).

If you work in government and have written something that either isn’t appropriate for the official blogs, or it is a personal outlook, or you just fancied publishing on Medium — great.

I created this publication as a bit of a prototype to see if there was a need for something like this. I will iterate the publication as needed. As a result, there isn’t a sophisticated process for submitting a story, and Medium doesn’t exactly make it easy.

How to submit your story

  1. Find me on Twitter (my direct messages are open). We need to move off-platform because Medium doesn’t allow conversation to take place easily.

2. Introduce yourself, where you work and what you do.

3. Send a link to your story (or draft) on Medium so I can read it.

4. I‘ll add you as an official writer for the publication, so you can submit your story.

5. You will then need to use Medium.com. You can’t add stories to a publication you’re a writer of via the apps.

6. Check out how to add draft or post to publication for detailed instructions on how to actually submit your story as Medium have made the interaction a little hidden and tricky.

7. You’re done.

By submitting your story to this Medium publication, I hope we can capture these personally published stories in one — easy to follow — place. It would be great to have everyone that works on the design of our digital government an official writer of this publication.

I anticipate this publication will be of interest to others working, or interested in working in government on digital transformation.

A few things to consider

Once your story is part of the GOV.Design publication, the Medium URL will change slightly.

Your story will share the GOV.Design “branding”. This is a simple, inoffensive black and white header like you see at the top of the story you’re reading now.

Editors of the publication will also be able to edit your story, although we have no reason to ever do this.

Stories will never be locked behind member only access.
