A lot happened for us in 2017, making it one of the best years of our decade long journey since 2006. A big thank you to everyone who made this possible!

Winning the London Blockchain Week Hackathon 2017

Major validation for our team! We tried solving a big problem of Financial Inclusion for Papua New Guinea — by proposing an Ethereum based Dapp that could run without smart phones, without internet and without banks.

Learning from over 15 blockchain events in 10 cities

Our love for blockchain took us on a Blockchain Tour covering over 15 blockchain events in cities like London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Washington DC, Bangalore, Ports Moresby (PNG), Jakarta and Mumbai. Key learning from each event:

  • Massive interest in industries beyond BFSI to learn, experiment and adopt the tech.
  • Governments across the globe trying to be a part of the mega change.
  • Very warm and welcoming global blockchain communities.
  • Fabulous attempts at clarifying how Bitcoin differs from the Blockchain Tech in general
  • Great innovations (outside of Silicon Valley!) in developing new blockchain platforms
  • A mountain of PoCs across industries — BFSI, Logistics, Retail, Manufacturing, Aviation.
  • Some really interesting and successful MVPs/implementations, majorly in BFSI.
  • A new class of crypto-investors and of course — ICOs!

Getting to work with great blockchain minds across industries

We bagged great opportunities to try our solutions in different industries — ranging from Banking, Insurance, Aviation, Energy, Telecom and Manufacturing. Some of the projects that we worked on in 2017 included the following:

P2P Insurance Mutual

Bringing back insurance in a very cost-efficient way by allowing individuals to form groups that can share risk at affordable costs.

Aviation Maintenance

Single Version of Truth for OEM, MRO, Aircraft, Airline & Aviation Authorities efficiently reducing operating costs & layover times.

Subsidy Distribution Systems

Public Distribution System with assured and accurate end utilization enabling transparency, Traceability & Standardization.

Crisis Fund Distribution

A global common ledger for raising, allocating & distributing aid, donations and grants during times of crisis.

P2P Energy Trading

A decentralized energy pool for generators, consumers and prosumers for trading conventional and renewable energy in a peer-to-peer environment.

Bank Reconciliation

A DLT solution for Bank Reconciliation eliminating the age-old problem of different statement formats of different banks

Joining the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance

In September 2017, Somish became India’s first startup to join the EEA, in a bid to work closely with the top blockchain minds to get to enterprise ready Ethereum deployments.

Passionate attempt at building India’s largest blockchain community

We were fortunate to have learnt a great deal from our travels and wanted to utilize that exposure in building India’s largest blockchain community. This lead us to organize the India Blockchain Week, a 5-day event that took place in Mumbai in September, 2017. The event hosted over 600 blockchain enthusiasts over five days and it turned out to be a grand success.

Announcing GovBlocks!

In September 2017, we officially announced our flagship product — GovBlocks, at the India Blockchain Week.

Blockchain platforms like Ethereum led to global attempts at building decentralized applications (Ðapps) that utilize the immutable and self-executing nature of smart contracts. Ideally all possible actions of a Ðapp can be coded in a smart contract, but reality is much more complex. Survival is for those who adapt to complex environment changes, the ones that cannot be foreseen in the initial smart contract design.

The GovBlocks Protocol enables a Ðapp to configure incentivized governance models for implementing decentralized change management on applications built using blockchain platforms like Ethereum.

Thanks!

Once again, a big thank you to all those who made 2017 a fabulous year! We couldn’t have been more excited and geared up for 2018!
