We’re back! And this time it’s personal.

Well… in-person at least.

The GovCampNorth team have been working away in recent months to bring together a new GovCampNorth experience. This time around, we have decided to team up with UKGovCamp, to run not one but two in-person events and a joint online event in January 2023.

We have been conscious that our last two online events have been valued by a lot of participants, as it provided a new way for people to engage with the GovCamp community. We didn’t want to lose this aspect as we reintroduced in-person events again, so we have gone for a multi-format approach.

So we are very excited that we will be kicking off a week of GovCamping in 2023, starting with GovCampNorth on Tuesday 17th Jan 2023 at the Digital Media Centre in Barnsley!

A BIG shout out to the ‘DMC’ team in Barnsley for sponsoring our first in-person North event and providing the venue for our inaugural GovCampNorth gathering.

Our approach when seeking venues has been to try and balance using accessible locations, within a couple of hours of most major northern cities, but whilst also exploring less conventional locations. It’s great to have the support from the local team in Barnsley to help make this event possible and bring GovCampNorth to life.

This will be followed on Thursday 19th Jan by our joint GovCamp online event, and then the long-standing UKGovCamp in-person event will be returning to the MoJ in London on Saturday 21st Jan, to round off an epic week of GovCamping.

New format — same GovCamp North

As always, we will be following the unconference format, where YOU choose the topics and set the agenda for what we talk about during the day. If this is all new for you, check out Claire Moriaty’s posts on “The Joys of Unconferencing” which give an insight into this type of event.

As with all GovCamp events, there are new things being tried and tested with each camp, and this year is no exception. With this being the first time we’ve run a northern GovCamp event in-person, many things will be new — for us and you! Whilst we are drawing on a wealth of event delivery experience, including from UKGovCamp, this is a first for us running GovCampNorth in-person (albeit hopefully the first of many!) and there are many unknowns. We’re always keen to hear the views of participants new and old, in terms of what you value at these types of events and what things would be helpful for you to get the most out of the opportunity. Get in touch if you have thoughts on this!

January isn’t so far away, and we’ll be sharing more information in the coming weeks as we fix the details. In the meantime, get the date(s) in your diary, sign up if you want to join us, and get in touch if you are interested in helping on the day as a volunteer or in becoming a sponsor for the event (we have a range of sponsorship packages, across all three events).

Get Your Tickets

Initial registration for interest in tickets to all three events is already open — head to our online form to get your name down on the waiting list. Note that GovCampNorth is running on a “first-come-first-served” basis this year; GovCampUK is running a ticket lottery, as in previous years.

That’s all for now… bring on the ‘Camping!
