The vision, mission and intention of the Governance Research Institute (“GRI”) is to study, research, analyze, educate and recommend best practices pertaining to governance for the blockchain ecosystem and decentralized organizations.

Governance means a set of principles that guide decisions and behaviors in an organization. Governance, in blockchain ecosystem and decentralized organizations, may seem to be a paradox, because the word governance stems from the Latin word “Guvernare” which means to control. However, decentralization does not mean a lack of control. It simply means distributed control. At GRI, it is our intention to deeply study, review and research this spectrum of decentralized control and governance models.

Our examination of governance includes, without limitation, the following:
- values, identities, codes and principles of an organization
- strategy and plans to achieve an organization’s purpose
- rules and policies set and implemented by the organization
- decentralized control of an organization
- consensus mechanism to ensure partiality
- transparency with token holders
- distribution of tokens and tokenomics
- voting (including quantum and quadratic), psychology and fairness
- security, identity and privacy
- auditing and internal controls
- trust and fiduciary duties…
