Let’s consider some of the biggest issues for Trump supporters.

1) Abortion

What percentage of the Trump voters have ever been personally harmed by someone else having an abortion? A fraction of one percent? None?

Yet opposition to abortion is a HUGE reason why Trump supporters vote for Republican politicians.

2) Homosexual marriage

What percentage of Trump voters have been personally harmed by two other people of the same gender getting married?

None.

Yet opposition to legal gay marriage is a HUGE reason why Trump supporters vote for Republican politicians.

3) A transgender person using a bathroom other than the one for the gender on their birth certificate

What percentage of Trump voters have been personally harmed by a transgender person using a bathroom other than the one for the gender on their birth certificate?

None.

Yet opposition to a trans person in the “wrong” bathroom is a HUGE reason why Trump supporters vote for Republican politicians.

4) DEI

What percentage of Trump voters have been personally harmed by employers hiring qualified applicants who are not white Christians?

Very few if any.

Yet opposition to a DEI policy a HUGE reason why Trump supporters vote for Republican politicians.

None Of This Stuff Actually, Seriously, Affects MAGA People’s Lives

Are you getting the picture here? The Trump voters are all upset about stuff other people are doing that doesn’t even materially affect their lives. Why?

Because those other people aren’t doing the right thing according to the Trump voters’ religion. Because as far as their religion is concerned the other people are sinners and the Trump voters are hell-bent on having the government make it illegal for other people to commit a sin.

What About The Issues That DO Affect Trumpers’ Lives?

1) What percentage of Trump voters are having trouble paying for their prescription drugs?

More than 80% I would guess.

2) What percentage of Trump voters can’t afford to get their children the training they need in order to have a good career?

Probably more than 50%

3) What percentage of Trump voters have children who cannot afford to buy a house?

Probably at least 50%

4) What percentage of Trump voters are struggling to pay their bills?

Probably at least 50%

Some Legislation That Could Improve Trump Voters’ Lives

  • Why can’t Congress pass legislation requiring drug manufacturers to charge Americans the same price for prescription drugs that Canadians pay?

— Because the Republican legislators that the Trump voters elect will vote against all such legislation.

  • Why can’t Congress pass legislation that provides for interest-free student loans to be funded by a 50% inheritance tax on estates in excess of $25 million?

— Because the Republican legislators that the Trump voters elect will vote against all such legislation.

  • Why can’t Congress pass legislation that will heavily tax landlords’ rental profits that are in excess of a cost+overhead+a reasonable profit on the landlord’s cash investment in the property?

— Because the Republican legislators that the Trump voters elect will vote against all such legislation.

  • Why can’t Congress pass legislation that will heavily tax corporate profits in excess of cost+overhead+a reasonable profit amount?

— Because the Republican legislators that the Trump voters elect will vote against all such legislation.

  • Why can’t Congress pass legislation that will heavily tax corporations for executive compensation paid in excess of some multiple of the compensation paid to the corporation’s lowest paid employees?

— Because the Republican legislators that the Trump voters elect will vote against all such legislation.

  • Why can’t Congress pass legislation that will prevent a person from serving on the board of directors of more than one public corporation at a time?

— Because the Republican legislators that the Trump voters elect will vote against all such legislation.

  • Why can’t Congress pass legislation that requires the total compensation of the top 10% of a public corporation’s employees be no more than a reasonable multiple of the total compensation paid to the bottom 10% of the total compensation paid to the bottom 10% of that public corporation’s employees?

— Because the Republican legislators that the Trump voters elect will vote against all such legislation.

  • Why can’t Congress pass legislation applying the death penalty to public corporations that are convicted of serious felonies, that is, upon a corporate criminal conviction for serious felonies the corporation will be dissolved and cease to further exist.

— Because the Republican legislators that the Trump voters elect will vote against all such legislation.

GOP Politicians Won’t Vote For Laws That Would Help Trump Voters

We have all these issues that have little to no personal detrimental effect on Trump voters and yet those Trump voters can’t wait to elect politicians who will vote against legislation that would materially, positively improve the lives of most if not all of them.

Why do the Trump voters continue to elect Republican politicians who keep them poor?

  • Because people aren’t rational. They are emotional, especially about their religion. They will happily cut off their nose to spite their face if cutting off their nose will promote the principles of their religion. People will do incredibly self-destructive things in the name of their religion and their God.
  • Because religious people would rather try to stop someone else from doing something they think is a sin, a sin that doesn’t even personally affect their lives, than they would choose to vote for a politician who will make their family’s lives better.
  • Because they would rather not be able to afford their prescriptions, their kids not get an education or be able to buy a house, that their costs of living will be high if that means electing a politician who says s/he will make it illegal for someone else to commit a sin.

The Republicans’ Brilliant Strategy

That’s the genius of the architects of the Republican Party’s strategy. They understand that voting is about emotion, not logic. They have orchestrated the GOP strategy in the same way that a magician performs his act.

Showmanship and misdirection.

So, here we have all these problems that are vital to most if not all Trump supporters and yet they are voting for politicians who will do everything possible to thwart solutions that would be beneficial those same Trump voters.

The GOP-top-5%ers, America’s financial elite, figured out that, like getting the rubes to watch the pretty girl while the magician palms the ace, the GOP could get the rubes to vote against sin while the Republican politicians cut taxes for the rich and prevented restrictions on their supporters’ corporate piracy.

The Democrats Helped

And it worked, but, of course the bleeding-heart Democrats helped.

The Democrats were as fascinated by the magician’s pretty female assistant as the rubes in the crowd.

The Democrats made elections all about women’s rights, gay people’s rights, black people’s rights, trans people’s rights and pretty much said nothing about the actions of corporations, landlords, banks, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, obscenely over-compensated executives, billionaires and the Republican Party’s dedication to making the corporations, their owners, and their executives ever richer and consumers and the middle and working classes ever more tightly-held prisoners in the grip of today’s cartel economic system.

So, while both the Republicans and Democrats screamed at each other about women’s rights and gay rights and trans rights and black rights, the billionaires and the corporate elites laughed all the way to the bank.

Suckers

The Trump voters, and the Democrats too, really are suckers, all of them.
