You Can’t Impeach A President Or Strike Down His Illegal Orders From An El Salvador Jail Cell

How Terrible We Thought The Nazis Were

Years ago, when we Americans looked at the old images of the Gestapo agents grabbing people off the streets of Berlin and shipping them to prisons in Poland we would shake our heads in anger and disbelief.

“Those terrible Germans,” we would mutter. “Monsters. Look at them just rounding up people and sending them to prison camps without them having committed any crime, just because they were communists or homosexuals or Jews. How vicious. How evil.”

Now, Trump’s Police Are Doing The Same Thing

I just attended a memorial service for a recently departed Jewish friend.

Sitting in the synagogue, I was thinking of the over 200 alleged Venezuelan gang members who were rounded up by Federal agents without a warrant or even being charged with a crime and shipped off to a prison in El Salvador.

  • Not convicted of anything.
  • Not even charged with a crime
  • Not allowed to have a lawyer
  • Not allowed to have a trial
  • Not allowed to deny that they were, in fact, gang members.
  • Not allowed to prove that they were legally in the United States.
  • Not even allowed to prove that, in fact, they were actually American citizens.
  • Just told: “The government has decided that you’re an enemy of the people so the government is going to have you locked up in a foreign prison. End of story.”

So, now we have agents of our own government handcuffing a bunch of people who have not been convicted of any crime, not even been charged with any crime, and shipping them off to a foreign prison based on nothing more than the bare claim of some police agent that they are enemies of the people.

Since when has there ever been a crime called being “an enemy of the people”?

Being an enemy of the people really means being an enemy of whoever is running the Government, and one day that could be any of us.

Like Hitler’s Germans, Trump’s Voters Don’t Care

Nazi officials established the first concentration camp, Dachau, on March 22, 1933, for political prisoners. It was later used as a model for an expanded and centralized concentration camp system managed by the SS.

Hitler’s supporters were perfectly fine with the Gestapo raids. The first prisoners were communists after all, and Hitler assured the German people that the communists had burned down the Reichstadt, and that therefore communists were enemies of the people.

Next the Gestapo grabbed up the socialists. Then the homosexuals. Then the Gypsies and then the Jews.

Enemies of the people, all of them. “Who cares?” the German people said. “Hitler knows what he’s doing. Good riddance.”

And do today’s Americans who voted for Trump shake their heads at these arrests right here on our own soil?

Do the people who voted for Trump even notice that this “gang round up” is exactly what Hitler’s secret police did back in 1934? Or care?

“Sure,” the Trump voters say, “let’s get rid of them. They all deserve what they get. If we can’t trust Trump’s appointees to recognize the enemies of the people, who can we trust?”

This Is The First Boot On The Door

This mass arrest is Trump’s test case. He wants to see if he can get away with it. If he can, more roundups will follow.

I’m guessing that Trump’s agents will next turn their attention to alleged Mexican gang members.

And then it will be the “left-wing radicals.” And after that the troublemakers who criticize Trump and his government. They’re all enemies of the people, Trump will assure us, so good riddance, right?

These sorts of arrests never stop until they are stopped.

In 1946 the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller wrote:

First they came for the Communists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me

And there was no one left

To speak out for me

Are America’s Jews Noticing What’s Happening?

In a way I was glad that my Jewish friend had not lived to see America doing the same thing to our government’s designated “enemies” that the Nazis did to the Jews.

The Biggest Complainers About The Gov’t Are All For These Raids

Isn’t it ironic that the right wingers who were the biggest complainers about the Deep State are the ones who are now the biggest supporters of federal agents locking up people up without a trial and shipping them off to a foreign prison?

All those right-wing anarchist types now think that arresting enemies of the people without a charge or a trial or even a crime is a great idea so long as it’s their guys who are running the arrest squads.

But it won’t end well for them.

No One Is Safe From Dictators

Remember that on June 30, 1934, when Hitler no longer needed the SA “Brown Shirts” the entire SA leadership was purged by the SS during an event known as The Night of the Long Knives. The SA leader, Hitler’s dear friend Ernst Rohm, was taken to Stadelheim Prison and shot dead.

After Trump’s new Gestapo, whatever spin-doctor name they give it, finishes with the claimed gang members, they’re going to move on to the “radical Muslims” and then the “radical leftists” and then the journalists, media executives, the judges and then the politicans who refuse to toe Trump’s line.

Our Future Is In The Past

Trump’s America today is Germany, circa 1934. When America is Germany circa 1939, don’t come crying to me, “Gee, I didn’t know he was going to do that!”

This Is Just The Beginning

Wake up. Claimed Venezuelan gang members sent off to a prison in El Salvador are just the beginning.

Dictators always need a new enemy to justify their continued existence.

Within four years, enemies of Trump’s government — uncooperative reporters, media executives, judges and yes, even members of Congress, or their families, will all be threatened with a one-way trip south of the border.

They will be reminded that you can’t impeach a President or strike down his illegal executive orders from an El Salvador jail cell.

But by then it will be far too late.
