Elections are confusing. They’re supposed to be simple, and while it only takes a couple of steps to be ready, it still feels confusing.

What’re the right steps? Where are the links? Do I have to do it all now? Is there a difference between “mail-in” and “absentee” ballots? The list goes on and on and on.

And in the end, we start to researching online to figure out what to do, maybe we even take the first step and say we’re going to finish later. But then now becomes later and we forgot if we ever took the first step at all.

It’s all just way too much. So after several of our community members asked us these questions, we decided just to fix the problem and build a simple easy-to-use checklist for everyone.

And with that, we present the Govrn Election Readiness Checklist.

The Checklist

What is the Govrn Election Readiness Checklist? Simple, it’s a checklist of every step you need to complete to be ready for November 3rd (Election Day).

Fun Fact-Side Bar: After losing the 1755George Washington’s entire campaign budget for his 1758 election to the House of Burgesses (Virginia) was spent on liquor — 50 British pounds to purchase 160 gallons of alcohol that was given to 390 voters. And if you’re curious, yes he did win his election race.

The list includes things such as “Registering to Vote,” “Request a Mail-In Ballot,” and even “Sign up to be a Poll Worker” (which if you’re young and healthy, you should do).

We’ve aggregated all the steps into a simple checklist that allows you to check-off items as you complete them. Can’t finish all the steps in one sitting? No problem. Our list saves your progress and enables you to come back later.

Now, we’re going to take you step by step and show you how to sign up and access this list. Are you already convinced and don’t need any instructions — perfect, click on the link below and head to the races.

For everyone else, click the link, pull up the website in a separate window, and feel free to use this guide (with videos) to help you get set up.

Step 1a — Sign Up

The first step you need to take is to sign up. If you already have an account, skip to Step 3.

Fill in your first name, last name, and email address. This will allow you to come back and access the site at a later time.

Step 2 — Choose an Avatar

These steps aren’t required, but we think they make it way more fun.

The first part is to choose an Avatar. We have a set of emoji’s for you to choose from on how you want digitally show yourself. After that, we’re going to ask for a fun fact. What is it that makes you, you? (I, for instance, love ranch dressing.)

Both these are optional, but we think they make the experience way better. We want our parties to be as fun as actual parties, so why not have some fun along the journey?

Now skip step 3 and go to step 4 (step 3 just shows existing users how to find this feature).

Step 3 — Launch the Checklist (For existing members only!)

If you’re an existing member, we’ve made it easy for you to launch the checklist.

The first thing you’ll do is go to the “Home” section of the site. This should take you to your Govrn Portal. From there, click on the settings tab. You’ll see a new section available now labeled “Power-Ups.” You should see a button to take you to your Election Readiness Checklist. Go ahead and click that button to get started.

Step 4 — The Checklist

Now you should see your checklist with all the steps you currently need to complete.

There are two columns, one labeled “Checklist” and one labeled “Completed.” As you hover over the first item, a “Go” button will appear. Click on that button, and a new page will pop up with the steps you need to take. Follow the instructions on the page to complete the task.

Step 5 — Checking off the box

This is my favorite part of the checklist. Nothing is as satisfying as crossing something off a to-do list.

Once you’ve completed the task — navigate back to your Election Checklist. Go over the task you completed, and click the pink circle. And just like that, the task will move to the “Completed” side with a checkmark, and the task crossed off.

When you’ve complete your first task, you’ll see your status change from “Not Started” to “In Progress”!

Also, as something to look forward too, once you complete all six steps, your status will change to “Completed”!

Now, what happens if you make a mistake and cross off an item too early? Not to fear, you can move the task back over to the “Checklist” column.

If you cross an item off by mistake, all you have to do is click on the “x” in the bottom right-hand corner of the task, and it’ll move back to the “checklist” side.

And boom — there you go. You are not one step closer to owning your democracy. It really is that easy.

  • If you do ever have a question about the checklist or not sure how to complete one of the steps, send us an email at ElectionChecklist@GovrnMovement.com and we’ll help you out.

We hope this helps you on your democracy journey to this November. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible to elect the leaders you want in the upcoming election. Elections should be fun and easy. Hopefully this helps you out just a bit.

Love the checklist? Stay tuned.

We’re soon releasing several more products designed to make it easier to vote this coming election… Not to toot our own horn here, but they are pretty fantastic — so get excited.

Stay good and talk to you soon,

Aaron

Shoutouts to Kyle, Gabe, Amy, Kaia, and Kristina for approaching us with the idea and helping us build the first version. You all are the real MVPs.
