To qualify for Win the Era’s support, candidates must have similar political beliefs to the former mayor.

Former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is forming a political action committee called Win the Era to “endorse candidates who represent generational change” and support candidates who are not well known.

This move is aimed to create a pipeline for future, lesser-known Democratic candidates who share Buttigieg’s political beliefs, with a five-part criteria list that its members will use to determine its endorsements.

He will also be founding a non-profit group affiliated with the PAC which will promote political issues that he advocated for during his campaign, like climate change and cybersecurity, according to the email he sent donors to his former campaign last week.

Donors were encouraged to redirect their money to support these groups; they are accepting donations up to $5,000. Over the course of his 2020 campaign, Buttigieg raised more than $2.8 million in general election funds, $43 million of which coming from donations less than $200.

“Win the Era’’ is a reference to a message from his previous presidential campaign. The former mayor of South Bend, Indiana dropped from the race shortly after a large loss in the South Carolina primary, just two days before Super Tuesday. He announced his endorsement for Joe Biden shortly after.

The Win the Era website states that it will be “rolling out a series of endorsements of candidates who we believe embody our values and deserve your consideration.”

And a fragmentary version of his “Pete for America” campaign website reads “Together we can build the era that must come next,” alluding to this new PAC.
