Another trip to Amsterdam made me sure this is exactly where I want to be back. It perfectly combines the company’s business prospects and the opportunities for sightseeing.

So, below there’s a short list of the key factors that make Amsterdam a desired destination from our IT perspective.

1. This city is literally a huge digital hub. The Netherlands are considered to be one of the most wired countries in the world whereas its capital is sometimes called a digital gateway to Europe. The Amsterdam area is a home for about a third of all European data centers. This consequently leads to a big demand for networking and hardware specialists. And those building the software architecture.

2. It’s hard to recall an international IT giant without an office in the Amsterdam area. Google, Facebook, Microsoft, ReachLocal, ServiceNow, Apple, Netflix and many others offer lots of work for the talented developers. It varies from IoT, cloud and data processing to mobile and desktop applications. Basically, it’s a wonderful place for an experienced engineer to sharpen his skills.

3. Startups. Amsterdam is all about startups. The local managers were able to create a conducive atmosphere for networking, freelancing and outsourcing. The bright ideas may be discussed, invested and implemented really fast here.

4. This city is perfectly balanced. It’s a capital of a small country with the population below one million people which makes it very comfortable for life. You might notice that bikes, trams and boats here are in much more winning position than cars. And — although the main streets are overcrowded with tourists — it’s easy to find a quiet place just behind the corner. That’s what I liked here most.

Lots of parks and tiny cafes offer a relax after a hard working day. Or you may take a ride to one of the beautiful towns nearby. It took us only one day to see the Medieval Haarlem and sunbathe at the shore of the North Sea (which was absolutely amazing to do in the middle of October).

5. Museums and art as a part of entertainment, because you don’t live with a work alone. Amsterdam is reckoned to have more culture per capita than any other city in the world. I’m not gonna be a Wikipedia here. Just believe me — you’ll definitely find a place to visit.

See you there again.
