As we know, many companies set strong restrictions about swearing at work. It’s easy to understand this rule for some positions such as a call center operator, waiter or hotel receptionist. But why can’t people say any rough word at work if they operate inside a small group of people? In my opinion, swearing at work shows a level of trust and closeness of the relationships between colleagues. There is no place for sweet words when deadlines are coming. The shortest way to productivity is doing your job and being yourself. Well, it’s hard to be yourself if you need to think about any sentence you’re going to say. Many swear words could add an emotional part to your phrase, and in some cases people will understand you better.

Swearing is like a freedom of speaking because you don’t need to think a lot about what you are going to say.

Sure, there are lots of situations when swearing is not acceptable, but I think most of the adults understand this. Also, it’s not a good idea to send strong abuse to someone in person. In this situation, it’s better to resolve this immediately and create a strict border. But it’s a task for self-organizing in an agile and creative group of adult people. So each group of people has to have their own acceptable level of swearing at work. And this level should not be imposed by bosses.

So, what alternative do we have to swear words at work? In my opinion, we need to give our employees a right to create their own vision of acceptance of swearing. Let’s be flexible and agile. What do you think?
