To Happy Hour, Through Rush Hour

Putting Different Navigation Tools and Apps to the Test

You can’t talk about transportation in Georgia without talking about traffic. No one likes sitting in traffic, and the On Second Thought team doesn’t like it either.

These days, there are any number of tools and apps that say they can help you avoid traffic, but which one is the best?

Recently, the OST team tried to answer that question. They all left the GPB studios with a common destination (Happy Hour at the Brake Pad in College Park) at the same time to see which navigational tool or app would get them to their destination the fastest.

Celeste Headlee used her Garmin GPS unit.

Linda Chen used the Waze app.

Sean Powers took Apple Maps.

Jessica Metzger went old school and printed out Mapquest directions.

And Lindsay Thomas used her street smarts. (She’s a local, after all).

Which app or tool would reign supreme?

So, who made it to Happy Hour the fastest? Celeste came in 1st. Her Garmin helped her beat Lindsay “Backroads” Thomas by one minute.

Jessica came in 3rd with Mapquest (although she’s been accused of cheating by leaving early). Linda came in 4th with Waze. And Sean and Apple Maps came in last.

In the end, everyone made it to the Brake Pad. (There was much rejoicing). (Linda Chen/GPB News).

What navigation tools and apps do you use? Do you go old-school and print out your directions? Are you a street-smart local?
