We are announcing a change to the roadmap for GraalVM Community Edition (CE) critical patch update (CPU) releases. We believe this change will allow us to better meet the requirements of the GraalVM community: better tested maintenance releases, and more complete functional releases.

Since GraalVM CE CPU is based on OpenJDK CPU, we need to make sure that we pick up the final GA tagged OpenJDK CPU changes and have sufficient time for regression testing. To do this, we cannot release a GraalVM CE CPU on the same day as the OpenJDK CPU. Therefore, we need to target our GraalVM CE maintenance releases shortly after the OpenJDK CPU.

Since our GraalVM CE functional releases are targeted just a few weeks after the GraalVM CPU release date and include security fixes, we want to reduce the number of updates required for community members that want all our new features. Therefore there will be no GraalVM CE 20.0.1 release. All the security fixes will be included in the functional release GraalVM CE 20.1.0 which will also be available shortly as scheduled. We will also continue to do regular builds from the master branch for our development community members.

The GraalVM Community Edition 19.3.2 (maintenance) builds are currently available. The GraalVM Community Edition 20.1 (functional) builds will be released next week, so keep an eye on the GraalVM website or your favorite social media channel for the announcement!
