What is a Lesson on Graam?

As creators, we learn best by making stuff and by chasing an end goal that inspires us. Graam is a tool that not only helps creators to start teaching but also helps creators teach more effectively. This is why I have designed lessons to make the process of learning more effective. Lessons are designed to create a unique experience very different to learning from a professor at a university or learning online, on your own.

Lessons follow three main principles,

1. Lessons are Hands On 👐

Doing is the most effective way of learning a new skill. Want to teach about mobile apps? get a laptop and build one with your student. Want to teach how to take good photos? Get a camera and go on a photo tour with your student. Showing your process and how you create makes learning more engaging. Lectures and theory are for chumps, let’s get out there and start making things like real Pros.

2. Lessons are Goal Based 🥅

Goals and end products are inspiring. Every lesson will have a goal that you’ll be working towards with your student. For Example: Learn photography by taking photos of the Williamsburg bridge” or “Learn iOS app development by building a weather app”. Setting a goal to your lesson also inspires a prospective student to try out your lesson. This will also encourage them to tell their friends and colleagues about your lesson, getting you more attention.

3. Lessons are Unique to the teacher🌟

Every lesson is unique to you. For example, if you’re a photographer who has a peculiar way of taking portrait photos or a programmer who has figured an efficient process, teach it! Your lessons are your legacy or your greatest artistic expression and that’s what sets you apart. That’s why students come to you in the first place. Wear your weirdness and showcase it proudly.

“The standard pace is for chumps” — Derek Sivers

By breaking down a complicated skill into multiple smaller, goal based sessions, we will be making learning more effective and fun with a touch of humanity.

That’s how I’ve been teaching all my friends how to make apps for the past 6 months and they seem to absolutely love it 😊
