We Are A Series Of Fits And Starts
Not all steps go forward
Some self-help books serve a purpose. In my upstairs office, one holds up a wobbly leg of my writing desk. It collects dust bunnies, which I see when the morning light shines. I don’t fix the desk.
I don’t struggle staring at a screen like Steven Pressfield or make my habits atomic like James Clear. I don’t have attributes of the highly effective people Steven Covey wrote about, nor will I ever yell at you like Tony Robbins so you will become empowered.
I’m not selling anything, and I’m not telling you how to behave here or anywhere. I’m just here to tell you that you are okay just the way you are. Sometimes, it takes blinders to walk through the world until you figure out what you want and how to get it. When you continually read conflicting information, it is best to ignore it all.
Hesitation often stands as our most significant barrier between our dreams and reality. We struggle with that initial moment of beginning — whether it’s starting a new project, learning a skill, or pursuing a long-held ambition. The first step is the most challenging, fraught with self-doubt, uncertainty, and the paralyzing prospect of potential failure. In those moments we don’t realize what a great teacher failure is.
