Being seen as an authority in your niche is one of the biggest keys to a successful YouTube tech channel. This isn’t a new concept, and it shouldn’t be surprising.

Whenever people want a great review for the niche you’ve chosen to make videos about, you want them to think of you and your YouTube tech channel’s brand. People trust Nike to sell them great shoes that will really perform. You want viewers to trust your channel to provide them with great content that’s informative and entertaining. So how can you do that as a technology YouTuber?

1. Take Time to Understand Your YouTube Viewers

First of all, you need to really know your YouTube channel’s viewers and understand what they’re looking for in your content. If you haven’t already, you need to brainstorm your ideal demographic(s). Who are they? What’s their age range? What are their interests? What type of content do they enjoy? Why are they tuning into YouTube channels like yours?

The more detailed you can get about the people you’re making YouTube tech videos for, the more you can be sure that you’ve chosen the right approach towards things, that you’re reviewing the right products, and that your content is useful to them and really speaks to them.

2. Stay on Top of the Latest Tech Industry Trends

Next, if you really want to be seen as an authority in your field, you need to stay informed of the latest trends and the newest products in your niche. If you’re a tech YouTuber still talking about something three years after it was released, you’re behind the times.

Staying on top of the latest trends in your tech niche will not only help you stay up to date on the topics that interest your YouTube viewers, though. Doing this will also give you a lot of new ideas for tech videos covering trending topics — which means you’ll be able to reach a wider audience and get more views on YouTube.

3. Follow a Regular YouTube Video Schedule

All of the market research in the world won’t help you out if you don’t keep a regular schedule. Publish your uploading schedule on your YouTube channel’s about page and all of your social media pages, and stick to it!

If you commit to uploading two videos every week, then you need to do that. If you can’t, then either figure out how to reorganize your personal schedule so that you can stay on track or modify your uploading schedule so that you can keep up with it. Along with consistent uploading, you also need to keep up with your social media pages. Just having Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and SnapChat accounts won’t get you more followers, viewers, and subscribers. However, consistently posting quality content that your audience wants to see will help you grow your YouTube channel’s brand and reach immensely.

5. Create Unique Content For Your YouTube Tech Channel

As a tech YouTuber, one of the best things you can do is emphasizing the creation of unique video content. And we’re not just talking about making sure you don’t break any copyright laws. For example, think about Casey Neistat with his unique style and approach to daily vlogging.

You need to put your own spin on your YouTube videos. Give your own unique perspective on things. Make your content engaging and relatable. If you do, your audience will keep coming back for more.

6. Keep your related channels on

“One of the biggest mistakes I see business channels make is that they turn off the ‘related channels’ feature on YouTube. When I have chatted with business owners, the reasoning I get is that they’re afraid their competitor will show up as related channels,” says Balkhi.

“But the odds are that if someone is searching your videos on YouTube, they’re also looking at your competitors. By turning off ‘related channels’, you also remove yourself from YouTube recommendations. This means that you lose the network effect which makes YouTube as powerful as it is.”

7. Add sub confirmation to all your YouTube links

When sharing YouTube links on your website, too often businesses just link straight to their YouTube channel.

While it’s good to link to your YouTube channel from outside of YouTube, it’s way better if you use the sub_confirmation link. It looks like this:

https://www.youtube.com/user/list25?sub_confirmation=1

When a user clicks on the second link above, the first thing they’ll see on YouTube is a popup asking them to subscribe to your channel.

8. Win the CTR battle with great thumbnails

Similar to how text-based content works, videos with catchy a thumbnail and title often tend to rank higher even if they don’t have the best content.

The secret is similar to Google search: these videos win the click-through-rate (CTR) battle. In other words, Google seems to be calculating CTR as a ranking factor, which has been a subject of much debate in the SEO industry lately.

“In our experience, the best way to get maximum click-through rate, aside from a catchy title, is to use an attention-grabbing thumbnail. Some examples of catchy thumbnails that I have seen work include thumbnails with large text, highlighted/magnified areas, arrows pointing towards something in the image, and things that are just completely unexpected or unusual,” says Balkhi.

9. Always Make Video Quality and Value a Priority

Finally, quality always wins over quantity. Yes, you want to be consistent with your YouTube tech videos, but you need to make sure that you’re giving your audience high quality, valuable content. This means paying attention to the quality of your video and audio in your content because your viewers won’t stick around for videos that they can’t easily see and hear.

It also means discussing things that interest your audience and putting effort and thought into creating videos that they’ll want to watch. When in doubt, ask yourself if you’d tune in.
