Georgia College Baseball loses 6–5 to Flagler

By Ross Crowell

Georgia College (8–5, 0–3 PBC) lost a conference matchup at Flagler College (13–3, 3–0 PBC) 6–5 in St. Augustine, Florida, on Feb. 26.

The Saints’ victory gave them the sweep over the Bobcats, as Flagler won 4–2 on Feb. 24 and 11–9 on Feb. 25. While Flagler won all three games, the series was very close as the Bobcats lost by a combined six runs in three games.

While Georgia College trailed 6–1 after the fifth inning, the Bobcats fought their way back as they scored four runs in the sixth inning to tighten the game to 6–5.

However, the Bobcats failed to match the Saints’ offensive power, as Georgia College had 10 hits but did not have a single extra base hit. Flagler had 11 hits with four doubles and a home run by senior outfielder Dylan Jones.

Second baseman Garrett Green and catcher Brandon Purcell led the Bobcats offensively, as they combined for half of Georgia College’s hits. Green went 2–3 at the plate with a walk while Purcell went 2–4 with a walk and a run.

Flagler was led by shortstop Josh Pagliei and centerfielder Dylan Jones offensively. Pagliei went 3–3 with a walk, a run and two RBIs. While Jones had just one hit on the day, his sole hit was a two run home run that brought in Pagliei.

Georgia College will host Philadelphia University in a three game series March 3–4 at home in Milledgeville, Georgia. First pitch is at 6 p.m. March 3 at John Kurtz Field.
