Grailed and Heroine Engineering Team’s Values
The engineering team at Grailed and Heroine has grown from 10 people in 2018 to 22 people by March of 2019. With rapid growth came the need to clearly communicate our team’s values for ourselves and for others. We’d love to share what we came up with (if you’re interested in our process, give this a read).
Purposeful and Thoughtful Engineering
We are outcome-driven, weighing the pros and cons before execution, iterating and communicating throughout.
Personal Growth
We value potential and create an environment to help achieve it through mentorship, learning, and making an impact.
High Emotional Intelligence
We are kind, generous, and empathic because it creates a happier environment, healthier people, and better work.
Autonomy
We iterate quickly and take ownership of our work. We get things done.
Collaboration
We prioritize communication, share knowledge, and achieve more by working together.
Reflecting and next steps
Since sharing these values with the team around a month ago, we have applied them in a few ways. We’ve brought them up while iterating on the hiring process, added them to our on-boarding docs, and collaborated on this blog post.
Our hope is that, through clarifying and defining our values, we can work better and happier together, building a stronger Grailed and a stronger engineering community — one that lifts and supports others. If this sounds interesting to you, come join us :)
What values do you seek an engineering team? What’s worked, what hasn’t? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Thanks for tuning in.
