Strategy: Turn & Talks
1. Have the students read the article writing down interesting thoughts, circling words that they don’t know, and questions that they might have.
2. Students will then discuss the article and their notes with the partner next to them. Have the students ask their questions with their partners and what words that might of come up that they didn’t know.
3. Grab back all of the students attentions and talk to the students about their discussions that they had with their partners. The questions that came up and what words students don’t know the definitions of. Than lead into a discussion about fires, precautions people can take to prevent fires, why we need to be cautious, safety measures, and if we aren’t cautious what can happen to our planet.
4. Lead students into an activity to create an advertisement billboard to promote wildfire safety. In Montana as well as other states wildfires are an issue although not all of them are man caused some are.
