This article is about Yellowstone and the volcano that is sitting there. There is a volcano their that hasn’t exploded in a while and it is due to explode at any time. In this article it talks about what hydrothermal explosions are and what we could see at Yellowstone as for a hydrothermal explosion. The article also discusses the likelihood that Yellowstone will have another hydrothermal explosion in the near future.

The strategy that I would use with this article is summary frames. In this I would ask the students questions about the article that I gave them to read and then they would write a summary on the article with the help of their answers. I would use this strategy because depending on how well the students write their summary based off their answers to the questions i ask will tell me how much they have learned from the article and it will also tell me what else I need to do with to better learn this subject.

Other teachers have taught this subject along with a volcanic unit. Since this is related to volcanoes and is just an extension on them.

Some misconceptions that students might have is the difference between volcanoes and hydrothermal explosions. The students could also be confused if they are not given examples of hydrothermal explosions.

The standard used for this lesson is grade 2 earth science: obtain information to identify where water is found on earth and that water can be liquid, solid or gas.
