The article I chose covers the first segment of a unit on stretching. This article explains static stretching and how, when and why it should be utilized. Stretching is a critical component of health and fitness, it is imperative that students understand the difference between dynamic and static stretching and the appropriate applications of each type of stretch.

This article will help students learn various stretches that are appropriate after exercising to ensure students know the proper application of different types of stretches. Upon reading this article, students will be able to answer relevant questions such as: Is it possible to overstretch? Should static stretching be performed prior to exercise? How long should I hold a stretch? Students will be able to implement these stretches into their daily lives to promote overall wellness.

The grand challenge this article mostly addresses is unlocking the mysteries of the universe, one of the greatest mysteries is how to promote health and longevity. Everybody has heard that stretching is important though they do not receive proper training on how to actually make it beneficial. This article will help challenge students into recognizing different types of stretches and the relevance of them during various applications.

This specifically addresses 9th-12th grade Physical Education Content Standard 14: Evaluate the importance of stretching and flexibility in lifetime activities; upon reading this article, students will have a better understanding of the importance of stretching and specific static stretches.

I think adjunct displays would be a great strategy for this article as it would require students to explain each stretch with its purpose/appropriate application, it is also a great way to keep information organized. This will require them to analyze different stretches and transform the information into writing and drawings.
