I found this article very interesting and engaging as a teacher and student. I thought it would be cool to start the lesson out with defining renewable energy and examples of it with my students. This would be a great start to this lesson. After that, I would start to break down the article talking about what our Montana government is doing with renewable energy projects. As an activity, I would have the students come up with a couple of ideas that we could do as a class with renewable energy. I also posted in my Gingko app the idea of taking field trips to these new projects the government is doing to maybe spike their interest. The Grand Challenge this covers is the Understanding and Sustaining a Biodiverse Planet. I would a 3–2–1 Diagnostic to see what my students found interesting and really grasped and what they struggled with and that I might have to reteach.

The standard that fit this lesson could either come from science or social studies I had trouble deciding which one. After doing a little more research I decided that I would use a Social Studies Content Standard 1- Students access, synthesize and evaluate information to communicate and apply social studies knowledge to real-world situations.
