Special Education Case In Texas Goes All The Way Up To The Trump Administration (GingkoApp)
In this article, it is discussed that the Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos is withholding about $33 million from Texas schools to implement for their special ed program. This can be seen as a violation to discrimination and inclusion acts that have been implemented decades ago. Teaching this lesson, it would be best to find statistics on what the state your teaching in usually spends on special education and compare it to Texas’ situation. One of the best strategies I think would be to hold an open discussion with the class to get ideas shared around and have each student write a 1 page essay explaining the situation with critical thing after discussion.
Misconceptions: Some misconceptions that may arise would be the idea that all states get the same funding from the Federal government which is not true. This should be avoided along with the idea that all schools may be equal in funding themselves.
