Suicide Prevention

The article I chose was about Suicide prevention awareness month events going on in the town of Ronan. There are two main events going on a short film about suicide and then walk to raise money for awareness. I chose this article because I think that it a topic that my students need to be aware of because it is sadly happening at their young age. I think my students will wonder why we are learning about this and I will just have to state that I am trying to raise awareness. The Grand Challenge this covers is Understanding the American Experience. The Activity that I would use would be the two roses one thorn, I chose this one because this way I will be able to answer their questions but also find out what they learned.

The Standard I found was as an English standard for the Fourth Grade. Make connections between text or a story and identifying where each version reflects specific descriptions and directions in the text. I thought this standard went well because the article should make my students feel something after they read it.
