Teaching Earths Skin

This article gives educators a great view on vocabulary related to the Earths skin. This is how I would teach this article to my future students. First, I would read the article with the class and have the students highlight important information as we read. When we are reading the lesson together, I would periodically stop to show the class the vocabulary being used on the smartboard. I would ensure that the website, https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/daily-views-of-earth-available-on-new-nasa-website was displayed on the board.

Then after a group discussion, I would break the students into teams. Each team would have to create a poster using one part of the article. One example is forest. The students then could display their work and the class would then reflect on the important factors learned on each poster.

This activity can be taught farther in-depth, but for third graders to first introduce this topic, I would only cover the main content of the article. There are many sources out there for educating students about the Earths skin, it just takes a such engine. I also found many support articles on the NASA website too. One other common issue while teaching this subject is a misconception on the appearance of the contents. That is something to be paying attention to when teaching this topic. If it does occur us the interactive source on the nasa website to support your students.
