This article is about the current state of water in the world. It goes into detail on why the current water habits such as crop irrigation, reservoir issues and, filtration system failures. The author also explains some solutions for theses problems but as well as leaving open ended. The article dives deep into the overall issue of the world needing to come together to solve this problem. As well as hinting that it also is an individual involvement that means just as much.

I would teach this article in a unit about the water cycle. I would use this to connect my students to the larger picture of the water cycle. This article could be used in many ways from incorporating art and having students paint with “watercolor” their favorite body of water. I would use that lesson for students in lower elementary grades. This article can also be used for higher course to dive deep into this issue by a debate or even researching possible solutions to the issues discussed in the article.

This article can have many student misconceptions. One that would be common at a lower level is not fully understanding the worldly issue of water shortage. This could be a massive failure if not properly taught to younger students in a scaffolding way. In higher level course a misconception could have to due with personally background. Many families don’t believe there is a water shortage or global warming. This is an issue that will need to be discussed on a personal level with students if it arises.

There is a video on youtube called The Water Cycle. This video explains the cycle but also goes into detail on the importance of the cycle. There are also many other videos that would fit perfectly with this article at a wide range of grade levels. This is a topic that can be supported through many different source it just takes research.
