To support students as readers it is essential to understand the eight thinking processes. I find the first of the eight processes the most important, connect.
It is essential to make lessons and materials relevant in order for students to make connections. Having activities that are relevant and interesting to the students will render greater participation and therefore greater retention. Students will continue to gain knowledge of things that they are genuinely interested in, this is why materials should be presented in a way that is familiar. When things are familiarized we can make connections and by making these connections students can continuously improve. This is why many problems in a book will be listed with an example, something to make the situation seem more relevant
