Announcing The GRANDstack Online Hackathon

Build Something GRAND During The Month of June

--

The Neo4j team is excited to be coming to Berlin next week for GraphQL Europe 2018! We wanted to share our enthusiasm for GraphQL and what the awesome community is capable of building so we’ve put together the GRANDstack online hackathon for the month of June! It’s open to anyone, anywhere.

GRANDstack = GraphQL, React, Apollo, Neo4j Database

The GRANDstack is all about using technologies that complement each other and give developers super powers for building modern apps.

The GRANDstack starter project helps you quickly spin up a GraphQL, React, Apollo, Neo4j Database app.

The Hackathon

  • What is it? An online hackathon to showcase the GraphQL community and the awesome things the community is building.
  • Where? On the interwebs! Just submit your project to the HackDash board to show everyone what you’re building. The hackathon is open to anyone (even if you’re not coming to GraphQL Europe), but come by the Neo4j booth at GraphQL Europe for help getting started or just to chat. We’d love to see what you’re working on!
Win an awesome BRIK lego-style laptop cover in the GRANDstack hackathon!
  • When is it? You can submit your project anytime through the end of June 2018, but we’ll be featuring a few projects during the closing keynote at GraphQL Europe. So get your project in early to be featured!
  • How do I get in on this? First, build something that uses the GRANDstack (GraphQL, React, Apollo, Neo4j Database). This could be a data visualization, a movie recommendation application, a React Native mobile app to vote for the best talks at GraphQL Europe. As long as it uses the GRANDstack it’s a valid submission. Add your project to the HackDash board to submit to the hackathon. Be sure to deploy your project somewhere (like Zeit Now) so others can see it.
  • What do I get out of it? The top 20 submissions will receive an awesome BRIK lego-style laptop case with enough briks to build either the GraphQL, React, Apollo, or Neo4j logo (your choice!), or equivalent value Amazon gift card (50€). We’ll also feature a handful of projects in a blog post and during the closing keynote at the GraphQL Europe conference.

You can find more details and more resources for getting started at grandstack.io/hackathon. We can’t wait to see what you’ll build!

New APIs available

You can now use social media APIs for the GraphQL community for your hackathon submissions. We made data from Meetup, GitHub, Twitter and StackOverflow available via the grand-stack-starter.

Now there is also a World Cup data GraphQL API for you to build some really cool apps. It has the data of all football world cups, not just the current ones.
