Infidelity: The action or state of being unfaithful to a spouse or other sexual partner.

When you begin a relationship with someone or get married, the first thing that doesn’t come to mind is infidelity. It’s a roadblock that can occur in any relationship that’ll hit you like a truck. Whether you’re the one committing the act or the other person, when infidelity does occur, you really need to question your relationship.

Ask yourself, what went wrong in my relationship to cause this infidelity? Then, you need to ask yourself if this relationship is worth it or if it’s time to end it. Below, we’ve listed some signs it’s time to walk away after infidelity.

7 Signs It’s Time To Leave A Cheating Partner

1. They’re Lying Time and Time Again

One lie is possibly forgivable. But if it’s happening over and over again, and pertains to your partner’s infidelity, it’s time to cut them loose. You can’t trust someone you love if they can’t even tell you the truth about what they did and their emotions.

2. You Don’t Love Them Like You Used To

The key to keeping any relationship alive is love. After cheating, your love for your partner is likely to change. If it has changed to the point you barely love them anymore, the relationship is no longer worth staying in.

3. They’re A Serial Cheater

Once a cheater, always a cheater. If their cheating has persisted, they likely won’t break their habit. You shouldn’t stay with someone who clearly won’t change and treat you like you should be treated.

4. They Blame Everyone and Everything Besides Themselves

Excuses, excuses, excuses. If your partner can’t take responsibility for their actions, then there’s no point staying with them. It’s even worse when they blame everyone and everything, and are blind to the truth.

5. They Aren’t Committed To The Relationship

Cheating isn’t the only betrayal of commitment in a relationship. Are they avoiding physical interaction, telling you their feelings, or bailing on date night? If they are doing these things along with other non-committal actions, they aren’t worth staying with.

6. They Haven’t Talked To You About Why They Cheated

The starting place to get over the cheating hump in any relationship is for the cheater to admit they cheated and why they did it. If your partner cannot even tell you why, there’s no way you can work towards repairing your relationship.

7. You’re Staying Together For Reasons Other Than Your Partner

Even after infidelity, one of the leading reasons for staying together is for the welfare of your child. As a parent, you want your child to grow up in a loving home, and if you get divorced, it could greatly impact them. However, is protecting your child really worth your happiness and the possible growing resentment that comes with that?

Those are the signs and factors that impact your decision of when to walk away after infidelity. Don’t take divorce lightly. It’s a big decision that can impact not only your life, but your loved ones as well. Ultimately, it’s your choice whether or not leaving is in yours and everyone’s best interest.
