Decentraland Hosts First-Ever Fashion Week on the Metaverse
Virtual world Decentraland hosted the inaugural Metaverse Fashion Week. The virtual extravaganza took place between March 24 — March 27, 2022. The event was free to attend for everyone, where fashion labels and investors were able to purchase digital land in the metaverse to facilitate shows, concerts, after-parties, and more throughout the blockchain-backed experience. Attendees had the option to buy digital wearables from brands to use them on their customizable avatars via the creation of an Ethereum Wallet. The event also provided a platform for providing guests with the opportunity to buy real-life designs from their collections.
The Metaverse Fashion Week hosted 70+ brands, including Estee Lauder, Dolce & Gabbana, Forever 21, and more participating in the virtual fashion experience. With the rise of digital goods and metaverse shopping experiences, Decentraland’s Fashion Week looked to provide a space for people to express themselves and expand their understanding through wearables on their avatars. Fashion shows, galleries, and brand-hosted panels popped up across a newly-developed corner of Decentraland called Fashion District through March 27. Last November, virtual real estate company Metaverse Group purchased the 6,000-square-foot plot for a record $2.4 million. The event devoted digital spaces accessible to all visitors who can participate in panel talks, shopping experiences, runway shows, and after-parties. The Fashion week started with Selfridges recreating the digital space to reminisce the Birmingham store to showcase their NFTs in a gallery-like display. User avatars were also allowed guided tours of the artworks. Dolce and Gabbana also offered a glimpse of their looks through an N. FT collection. On Day 2, Etro hosted Liquid Paisley for their fashion show line-up. Others hosting runway events include Perry Ellis, Roberto Cavalli, and Tommy Hilfiger. Giuseppe Zanotti presents a limited edition of 1,000 NFTs of its Cobra sneakers on sale for shopping options. These will be wearable by the user avatars in the metaverse.
Hogan played host to a special digital after-party called Hogan-X. This after-party featured international artists celebrating Hogan’s ‘Untraditional’ sneakers; Republiqe and Monnier Paris are collaborating on a unique store of ‘wearable’ outfits that will house Coach, Ester Manas, and Wandler brands; and Braw Haus showcased a selection of NFTs. Grimes and Auroboros also collaborated for a musical performance feature. The digital movie theatre showcased films by Lanvin and Chanel. Attendees could claim a limited quantity of 10,000 complimentary Advanced Night Repair NFT wearables, which would be available as long as the user wishes. Users could avail them through MetaMask or other crypto wallets that support Ethereum and Ethereum tokens.
